Screening to Placement: Using SBIRT and ASAM to Guide Levels of Care - January 21, 2026

Presentation: This training will familiarize participants with SBIRT along with providing practice in implementing it utilizing case-based learning. An overview of the ASAM criteria will allow participants to have a better understanding of levels of care for substance use disorders. With this knowledge, participants will feel empowered in providing evidence-based care to people with substance use disorders.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the principles of SBIRT and how to utilize it in clinical settings;
2. Identify two different screening tools that can be utilized in SBIRT;
3. Identify the six dimensions of the ASAM criteria and how this can be utilized in guiding care; and
4. Describe the stages of change model and identify appropriate clinical interventions for each stage to enhance client engagement and treatment outcomes.
