Presentation: This session will serve as an introduction to understanding the presentation of psychosis, including differential diagnosis of substance-induced psychosis, and some of the common challenges of working with this population. This includes addressing misconceptions that lead to conflict and disconnect versus collaboration and connection. By redefining psychosis in a way that understands and honors the client’s experience as meaningful, participants will create a foundation to develop effective working relationships with individuals living with psychosis.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the symptoms of psychosis both diagnostically and in a way that deepens understanding of the client experiences;
  2. Summarize misconceptions to reduce stigma; and
  3. Utilize person-centered language and understanding to build rapport.

Stacie Lucius, MS, LCMHC, MLADC is the owner of Hope Connected Counseling & Consulting, PLLC in Exeter, NH. Licensed in NH and MA, Stacie specializes in working with individuals with anxiety disorders, thought disorders, substance use, and coping with various life stressors. As the prior Chief of Clinical Services at WestBridge for many years, Stacie has extensive experience working directly with individuals living with psychosis as well as their families. She is well-versed in developing and expanding clinical programs, providing staff training and supervision in co-occurring disorders, person-centered care, and an integrated approach to teamwork. Stacie has presented at several conferences on topics to include working with psychosis, engaging families in treatment, and recovery-oriented systems of care. A big believer in the importance of combating stigma and promoting mental health care, Stacie also works with organizations to provide trainings and services that support staff wellness initiatives.
