Presentation: The opioid crisis in the US has devastated individuals, families, and entire communities. While Covid-19 overshadowed the crisis, thousands of people have continued to die. This training will focus on opioid addiction and the impacts of overdoses. The participants will learn about effective treatment strategies and techniques and prevention methodologies.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the opioid crisis in the US and it’s impacts on individuals, families, and communities;
  2. Describe effective and evidence-based treatments; and
  3. Explain effective overdose prevention strategies and techniques.

NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No 6754. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NHADACA is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.

Dr. Haner Hernández

Dr. Hernández is from Borikén (Puerto Rico), fluent in Spanish and English, lives in Massachusetts, and has 39+ years of experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating Substance Use Disorder, Mental Health, HIV/AIDS, HCV, Problem Gambling, and related services. As a public health professional, with experience across the continuum, he embraces and promotes a greater understanding of the multiple strategies over multiple domains and multiple pathways of wellness and recovery. Dr. Hernandez also believes that quality public health work cannot be accomplished without true partnerships and engagement with people with lived and living experiences, their families, and formal and meaningful relationships with community-based organizations and institutions.
