Presentation: This workshop explores how anxiety manifests throughout different developmental stages and how adolescents can be “drawn” to the use of cannabis to reduce symptoms of anxiety. The workshop provides education around cannabis research and how it affects development, functioning and explores ways to intervene in early stages of an anxiety diagnosis to reduce the dependency on cannabis use with our youth.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain typical adolescent neurophysiology and psychosocial development;
  2. Identify the presentation of anxiety through various developmental stages;
  3. Utilize research around how cannabis use affects the anxiety symptoms and functioning; and
  4. Compare alternative approaches, interventions and ways to support the reduction in use of cannabis in adolescents.

Dr. Lindsay C B Murphy is a licensed therapist in the state of NH. She has been working at Greater Nashua Mental Health for over twelve years. Aside from supervising therapists and providing clinical care, Dr. Murphy also presents multiple trainings across the state in suicide prevention, postvention, CALM, child and adolescent mental health, family systems, and clinical interventions based on various presentations and more. Dr. Murphy is an adjunct professor at several different universities in New Hampshire, teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Murphy’s work history includes extensive community-based services for intensive families, crisis interventions, consults with other agencies, including Juvenile Justice, Child Advocacy Center, Hampstead Hospital, and other social services. Her clinical expertise in lifespan development supports her certifications in TF-CBT, DBT, REBT, MATCH, ACT, Solution-Focused, Family Systems, and Motivational Interviewing.
