A 3-Hour Training with Dr. Christina Marsack-Topolewski, Ph.D., LMSW

Virtual via Zoom | 12:30pm-3:45pm

Presentation: As the aging population continues to grow, with often increasing lifespans, unique realities and needs often present. This training will explore trends and prevalence, as well as common co-occurring substance use disorders, mental and physical health conditions, as well as unique realities commonly experienced by older adults. Information regarding services, resources, and best practices will be discussed to support older adults as well as their family caregivers. A special focus will be placed on examining pathways to support both older adults and their family caregivers.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the current trends and prevalence rates among older adult cohorts;
  2. State common co-occurring mental health and physical conditions among older adults; and
  3. Discuss tools, strategies, and resources to support older adults and their caregivers.

Christina Marsack-Topolewski

Associate Professor of Social Work

Eastern Michigan University

Dr. Christina Marsack-Topolewski, Ph.D., LMSW is an associate professor of Social Work at Eastern Michigan University. Her research focuses on vulnerable populations, caregivers, mental health, and non-medical prescription opioid misuse. She is a clinical social worker and provides training and professional consultation. Dr. Marsack-Topolewski has been the lead on multiple grant-funded programs tailoring services to individuals with disabilities and other co-occurring conditions, older adults, and chronic illnesses. She has over 80 published peer-reviewed journal articles and encyclopedia entries. In 2024, she received the Ronald W. Collins Distinguished Research Award for Research Excellence, as well as the Arc of Oakland County’s Advocacy Hall of Fame Award in 2024.
