A 6-Hour Training with Scott Meyer, MSW, Ph.D

Virtual via Zoom | 8:30am-4:00pm

Presentation: This training is designed to provide an overview of the range of issues involved in the clinical phenomenon of client and family engagement while working with clients and families that are symptomatic that challenge the clinician/staff ability to optimally engage in a trusting relationship in treatment. How we respond to such challenges both emotionally and in our communication and therapeutic style with such challenging clients and families, has the potential to reduce symptomatic behaviors and lead to more productive use of time towards achieving healthier treatment outcomes for those receiving services. Our use of reflective practice skills and our understanding of the processes of change, transference and countertransference become essential knowledge and skill bases to continually monitor and enhance both on our own and in collaboration with our supervisors and other professionals. This workshop will highlight key concepts and offer specific ideas for clinician/staff consideration in efforts to better engage with those clients who present with challenging and resistive behaviors in our treatment settings.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. List 2 factors that are often causal to a range of challenging behaviors in clients;
  2. Describe at least 1 reflective practice strategy to monitor and improve emotional responses as they work with clients; and
  3. Define transference and countertransference.
