A 3-Hour Training with Jane Macky & Angie Scott
Virtual via Zoom | 12:30pm-3:45pm
Presentation: Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) is the strongest empirically based program designed for people who are concerned about a loved one’s substance use. CRAFT works by helping concerned significant others (CSOs) build skills to help them reduce their loved ones' substance use, encourage treatment engagement, and improve the health and well-being of the CSO in the process. CRAFT has been well-researched in studies around the world and has been shown to help CSOs engage their loved one in treatment in 7 out of 10 instances and has documented success in decreasing symptoms of anxiety and depression in CSOs.
This session will introduce participants to the CRAFT protocol, examine key research supporting its role in early intervention and recovery, and review a research-backed online approach to making CRAFT more accessible for families and professionals. Attendees will also engage in demonstrations and interactive exercises to understand the practical application of CRAFT.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the research base that supports CRAFT’s efficacy and why it has been labeled a gold standard approach for family members of people with an SUD;
- Discuss the principles of positive reinforcement that shape the CRAFT approach and be able to identify a potential CRAFT client; and
- Explain how to apply multiple CRAFT procedures and identify a resource to implement in their practice.
