Presentation:  With an illicit supply that is apocalyptic throughout the United States, people engaged in harm reduction and treatment/recovery services continue to struggle. In this training, we will outline the tools that drug users turn to when they are looking to administer a drug. Whether it be injection, inhalation or ingestion, we will discuss the ins and outs of substance use. People who use drugs (PWUD) and professionals that work with PWUD must remain informed about the substances around them and how incorrect drug use practices can be dangerous. This training will provide meaningful education to individuals who support those who use drugs to improve safe consumption practices, and reduce risk of skin and soft tissue infections/infectious diseases.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Identify the various harm reduction strategies that are a part of the drug use process and apply concepts of humility and curiosity to participant education;
2. Analyze the connection between overdose prevention and response and safer drug use strategies; and
3. Demonstrate a technical understanding of best practices for reducing risk when using different substances and routes of administration.
