A .5-Hour Self-Paced On-Demand Learning Module
On-Demand
Presentation: What causes someone to become addicted? This course will explore the urge to use and how drug use becomes compulsive despite causing harm. This harm affects the user’s mental, physical, behavioral, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. This course will explore how substances affect the brain, what that does to the tolerance levels of drug users, and how, just like with other chronic diseases, reoccurrence is common. Having a basic understanding about how addiction affects those around you will assist you with utilizing non-stigmatizing language and empathizing with them.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- C1: Define what addiction is;
- C2: Describe how drugs affect the brain;
- C3: Assess how reoccurrence is part of the recovery process of addiction;
- C4: Describe how stigmatizing language affects those in recovery; and
- C5: List the stages of change.
Contributors include those listed in the module, as well as Corissa Webb Instructional Design, Cheryle Pacapelli, Heather Smith and Department of Health and Human Services.

Quiz
11 Questions | 3 attempts | 9/11 points to pass
11 Questions | 3 attempts | 9/11 points to pass
Before receiving your certificate, participants must pass a 11-question quiz with an 9 or higher. The test can be attempted up to three times; if you cannot pass the quiz in the three attempts, please email training@nahadaca.org so staff can reset the learning module to be retaken at no additional cost.
Why must you complete a quiz? First, it is an effective assessment tool, allowing you to gauge your understanding of the material. This reflection can help you find areas where you may need more study or clarification. Second, quizzes can enhance retention by reinforcing learning. Engaging with the material actively helps solidify knowledge in long-term memory. Third, it is a requirement for NHADACA to provide continuing education hours. Finally, quizzes can provide valuable feedback to staff and facilitators, offering insights into the overall comprehension and informing future teaching strategies.
